Various Asbestos
Location: Christchurch
Duration: 2 weeks
Type: Various including bitumen, lath & plaster, asbestos vinyl and cement sheet
Amount: 226m2
Description:
This project required us to remove corrugated iron roofing sheets, underlying sarking and 2 layers of asbestos-containing bitumen building paper.
The team also removed the top layer of gib ceiling and then asbestos lath and plaster ceiling in the lounge. Finally, was the removal of the vinyl on the kitchen floor and laundry asbestos cement sheet ceiling.
Method:
The team carefully detached the iron sheeting to avoid disturbing the layers beneath and then removed the Asbestos Bitumen Paper. Each layer was removed under strict containment and dust suppression measures, with all waste securely bagged and transported to a licensed disposal facility.
The area was cleared by an independent assessor and clearance certification was issued to confirm it was safe for follow-up roofing works.
The team then removed a double layer ceiling from the lounge. First to be removed was the gib layer of the ceiling and this was to expose the asbestos lath and plaster ceiling. Then the team performed a cut and drop of the asbestos-textured ceiling.
Finally, the team removed aged asbestos vinyl flooring from the kitchen, including underlying adhesive residue where necessary. After removal final clean of the enclosure ( HEPA vacuuming, wet wiping) was completed. Independent assessor then conducted a four-stage clearance inspection to ensure the property was fully asbestos-free and safe for future works.
Conclusion:
The property is now fully cleared of asbestos, giving the client peace of mind and a safe space to proceed with internal renovations and re-roofing works.
This project is a great example of our ability to manage multi-faceted asbestos removals.
